The Psaros 40 is a racing sailing yacht , the first of which was built in 2002. It was designed for sailing regattas such as the Bol d'Or on Lake Geneva .
The sailor and boat builder Jean Psarofaghis, who became Swiss Champion and Vice World Champion in the boat class “ 5.5 JI ”, developed this boat class together with Sebastien Schmidt (SebSchmidt design office). The name Psaros 40 is composed of Psarofaghis and the length of 40 feet . The Psaros 40 is being built by the Chantier Naval Psaros shipyard in Vésanez near Geneva . The hull is manufactured by Maxi Dolphin in Erbusco ( province of Brescia ). Five copies were built by the end of 2008.
The ship is characterized by a hydraulic swivel keel and variable water ballast (2 × 450 liters). As a result, the proportion of ballast in the keel can remain relatively low, which results in a lighter overall weight of the entire ship. The ship can be mastered with a relatively small crew. Six to eight people are required on regattas, depending on external conditions, to fill all positions.
Regatta successes
Ships of the type Psaros 40 were the fastest monohulls of the Bol d'Or in 2002 and from 2004 to 2008 and thus won the "Bol of Vermeille": Tilt 2002, 2004 and 2006, Oyster 2005 and 2008, Syz & Co 2007.
In 2007, the Psaros 40 Da Capo was the fastest ship in the round about Lake Constance and won the “Blue Cup”.
