The regatta Around Lake Constance , or RUND UM for short , has been an annual sailing regatta for everyone on Lake Constance since 1951 .

The start takes place on a 2.7 km long starting line in front of Lindau . This line is delimited on the outside by buoys and inside by dipsticks on the starting ship. The line itself is divided by the starting ship (2010: Lindau , 2015: Hohentwiel ). The high-performance ships start on a 400 m long part of the line, while the rest of the participating boats start on the larger part. After that, the railway marks in front of Romanshorn , Eichhorn in front of Konstanz, Überlingen and Meersburg must be on the at least 100 km long route for the so-called "Great Course"happening. The brand in Überlingen is no longer available for the “Small Course”. The goal is again before Lindau.

Since 1951, the Rund um has been organized by the Lindau Sailing Club (LSC) . At first it was a day regatta, but after the first two years it was moved to the night. On the one hand, there is often more wind at night due to the thermal on Lake Constance and on the other hand it places different demands on the material and the team.

In 1984 one of the old, classic ships was able to carry home the victory for the last time - then boats of the " Libera " class began to take part in the competition. In 2007, multihulls (at least 7.50 meters in length) and boats with movable ballast and / or movable keel (so-called NT boats) were also approved and in 2008 two America's Cupers took part in this regatta. Since multihulls have been allowed to take off, the fight for victory has become more interesting again, as the Libera class got competition.

The Around today with around 400 to 500 participating yachts , the largest sailing event on Lake Constance. In 2010 the 60th edition of the Rund um was celebrated. This year, due to the weak wind conditions, only 31 of the 409 registered boats were able to reach the finish line within 24 hours.

At the 68th edition in 2018, 312 boats in different classes were registered for the start and in 2019 there were 317. The round was last started on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. in front of Lindau.

The 70th edition, originally planned for June 11-14, 2020, was canceled at the beginning of April as the coronavirus spread .

The race is sailed according to the racing rules / sailing of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF). However, in contrast to the standard start procedure listed in the racing rules, the announcement signal is given ten minutes before the start according to the sailing instructions. Furthermore, the "black flag" is always used.

Participants have 24 hours to reach the goal. It is determined annually whether the route is sailed clockwise or in the opposite direction.

In this long-distance regatta, the Blue Ribbon of Lake Constance is sailed. All keel boats with a crew of at least three people are eligible to participate .

The evaluation of the Small Blue Ribbon from Lake Constance takes place on the “Small Course”, which does not use the Überlingen mark. This applies to boats of the Yardstick -V and -VI, H-Boats , Shark 24 , Varianta and Nordic Folkeboats classes . Further classes are determined by agreement between the race committee and the class association.
