The Lindau was built in the Bodan shipyard in Kressbronn on Lake Constance and heralded a new generation of ships on Lake Constance: It is the first so-called gallery ship with an opening between the main and upper deck, making the ship particularly suitable for special and event trips. It has an air-conditioned hall for 200 people with appropriate dining facilities and a stage area. Technically new territory is also being broken for Lake Constance: in order to guarantee good driving characteristics even in bad weather, aluminum instead of steel was used for the structure from the upper deck. And for the first time since 1931 (exception: the old Lindau ) the standard drive with Voith-Schneider propeller was deviated from and two fixed propellers with electro-hydraulic control of the double rudder system from the manufacturer van der Velden were installed.
As a christening present she received the compass of the city of Lindau , which was sunk in the autumn of 1887 by the captain Wilhelm Graf Mercandin and the Habsburgs in front of the Lindau harbor entrance.
