Pseudiragoides spadix is a butterfly from the family of the snail moth (Limacodidae).

features

The males reach a forewing length of 15 to 16 millimeters and a wingspan of 32 to 34 millimeters. The moths have a brown basic color with different tints. The antennae are long, double combed and about 2/3 as long as the costa of the forewings. The fore wings are elongated, the costa is slightly concave . There is an indistinct spot in the disc area. The butterflies are completely monochrome.

In the males, the uncus is small and has a strong apical spur. The gnathos is well developed and gradually tapers distally . The valva is elongated, concave, apically rounded and provided with saccus processes. These processes are six times as wide as the apical spurs. The transtillae are strong. The Juxta is small and flattened. The aedeagus is slender, about 1.3 times as long as the valva, and seen laterally undulating. Towards the tip there are short dorsal and ventral long, ribbon-shaped, pointed processes.

Females and pre-imaginal stages (developmental stages before the moth, i.e. egg, caterpillar and pupa ) have not yet been described.

Similar species

Pseudiragoides spadix is similar to the species of the genus Iragoides Hering, 1931, but the apex of the forewings is not pointed.

distribution

Pseudiragoides spadix has so far only been detected on the west side of Fan Si Pan in the Vietnamese Yunnan Mountains . The habitat is primary forest.

biology

The biology of the species has not yet been described. Imagines were collected in March, April and September at altitudes between 1,600 and 2,240 meters. It is believed that two generations are formed per year.

Systematics

The holotype is a male. It was caught in 1995 in northern Vietnam on Fan Si Pan at an altitude of 1,600 meters and is located in the Museum Witt in Munich . Pseudiragoides spadix is the type species of the genus Pseudiragoides Solovyev & Witt, 2009.

etymology

The specific epithet spadix - Latin for greyish brown, brown, reddish brown - refers to the coloring of the moths.
