Pseudobiceros bedfordi , also Persian carpet flatworm , is a flatworm from the order of the Polycladida .

features

The basic color of the individuals varies between brown and black with light yellow dots and numerous double-sided pink horizontal lines. The lines are outlined in black and have variable contours. Between them the density of yellow spots is higher. The body is lined with a black band with white dots. The belly is dark pink and has a black border.

Adult animals reach 29 × 18 millimeters to 100 × 45 millimeters. Young animals are from 25 × 12 millimeters in size. The pseudo- tentacles of Pseudobiceros bedfordi are pointed and like ears. The cerebral eye spot consists of around 100 ocelles . The pharynx is narrow.

Flatworms are hermaphrodites . Like all members of its genus, Pseudobiceros bedfordi has two male and one female sexual systems, each of which is located in a flat antrum . The two male genital openings are very close together. An oval short seminal vesicle, a long twisted injection channel, a large prostate and an extremely long, narrow stylet each form one of the two male sexual systems. The spermatic duct is not branched.

Occurrence

Pseudobiceros bedfordi is common on Heron Island , a coral cay at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef . Occasionally they can be found on Madang and Laing Island in Papua New Guinea . Other finds on the Great Barrier Reef, the Philippines , Micronesia and Singapore have been reported. Potential habitats are under projections from reef slopes and under chunks on reef peaks.

Taxonomy

The species was originally described as Pseudoceros bedfordi (Laidlaw, 1903). In 1984 she classified Anno Faubel in the new genus Pseudobiceros he had designed . As another synonym is Pseudoceros micronesianus (Hyman, 1955) considered.
