Pseudotrichonotus altivelis is a small, nine centimeter long bony fish (Osteichthyes), which has so far only been found in the sea around the Japanese Izu Peninsula .
features
The fish have an elongated, cylindrical body, a small mouth, a complete lateral line organ and cycloid scales . They have a single dorsal fin with 33 rays , the anal fin has 13 to 15, the ventral fins eleven and the pectoral fins seven fin rays. There is no swim bladder .
Pseudotrichonotus altivelis lives at depths of up to 30 meters on sandy soil, where it hides in case of danger. It belongs to the order of the lizardfish relatives (Aulopiformes) and is one of two species in the family Pseudotrichonotidae .
