Psychoterror is the first studio album and a song by the Viennese punk rock band Drahdiwaberl . It was produced in 1980 under the direction of Markus Spiegel and published in Austria in early 1981 .
production
The record deal with the Austrian music label GiG Records was signed in 1980, 11 years after the band was founded. The production management was taken over by Markus Spiegel and the recording took place in the SOUND MILL Studio Vienna. The production only took about two months and was kept quite cheap, the cover and all artwork for the album, for example, was designed by Stefan Weber himself.
The album was released in Austria in early 1981, where, contrary to all expectations, it made it to number eight in the Austrian Media Control charts and stayed in the top 20 for a total of eight weeks. A success in the commercial sector could be booked, which brought the band a gold record for over 20,000 records sold. At the same time, the single "Lodenfreak" was released, but it was hardly noticed.
A year later the album was also released in Germany under the Teldec label, but was unsuccessful there.
The album itself is characterized by provocative and political (mostly "incorrect") lyrics that criticize, among other things, the wrong social behavior of the rich upper class of the Austrian population, which is very clearly discussed in the song "Ausflippter Lodenfreak". The song " Ganz Wien " is about the drug scene in Vienna and was composed and sung by Falco - at that time still a member of Drahdiwaberl.
Others
In 2000 the album was digitally revised and re-released under the direction of Peter Müller. Just like cake instead of words and Sperminator , it is out of print .
The German pressing of the album, unlike the Austrian press, contains an elaborate supplement , but was only released as a vinyl LP.
