Ptenidium is a genus of beetles from the family of dwarf beetles (Ptiliidae) within the subfamily Ptiliinae . It occurs in Europe with 20 kinds, in Central Europe 13 kinds are common.

features

The beetles have an elongated oval, strongly shiny body, the surface of which is not shagreened. The pronotum is formed differently, the base is straight, in front of it pits often appear. The wings are egg-shaped and have their widest point in the middle. Their tips converge to a common rounding. The wings are usually lighter brown, the head and pronotum are usually darker to black.

Occurrence and way of life

The animals live on rotting plant material and in manure. some species live myrmekophil with ants.
