Ptenidium fuscicorne is a beetle fromthe dwarf beetle family (Ptiliidae).

features

The beetles reach a body length of 0.7 to 0.8 millimeters and are thus slightly smaller than the similar Ptenidium pusillum . The wings are more bluntly rounded at the back, more indistinctly punctiform and less hairy than in the similar species. The antennae are red-brown and only so long that they reach about the middle of the body.

Occurrence and way of life

The species occurs in Northern and Central Europe. The northern distribution ranges from Ireland and Great Britain via Scandinavia to the Arctic Circle , southern Finland and Russia, the southern distribution includes Spain and northern and central Italy, as well as Austria, Hungary and Romania. The animals are common in Central Europe. They colonize humid habitats such as swamps and live in moss or under decaying plant material.
