Puccinia fushunensis is a stand fungal art from the order of the rust fungi (Pucciniales). The fungus is an endoparasite of the sweet grass Leersia oryzoides var. Japonica . Symptoms of the infestation by the species are rust spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces of the host plants. She is endemic to China .

features

Macroscopic features

Puccinia fushunensis can only be recognized with the naked eye by means of the spore beds emerging on the surface of the host. They grow in nests that appear as yellowish to brown spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces.

Microscopic features

The mycelium of Puccinia fushunensis grows as with all Puccinia TYPES intercellular and forms Saugfäden that grow into the storage tissue of the host. Aecia or spermogonia of the species are not known, the same applies to uredia of the fungus. Its uredospores are 20 × 16  µm in size, colorless to light yellowish and finely spiky. The leaves of the species growing underneath the leaves are black-brown, compact and exposed early. The teliospores are two-celled, occasionally septate vertically, broadly ovate to broadly ellipsoidal and 30–34 × 21–25 µm in size. Their stalk is brown and up to 40 µm long.

distribution

The known distribution area of Puccinia fushunensis only includes the Chinese Manchuria .

ecology

The host plant of Puccinia fushunensis is Leersia oryzoides var. Japonica . The fungus feeds on the nutrients present in the storage tissue of the plants, its spore beds later break through the leaf surface and release spores. The species has a development cycle of which only Telien and their host are known; Uredien, Spermogonia and Aecien could not be assigned to the fungus.
