Puccinia loudetiae is a stand fungal art from the order of the rust fungi (Pucciniales). The fungus is an endoparasite of the Loudetia species. Symptoms of the infestation by the species are rust spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces of the host plants. The distribution area includes Sierra Leone and Uganda .

features

Macroscopic features

Puccinia loudetiae can only be recognized with the naked eye from the spore beds protruding on the surface of the host. They grow in nests that appear as yellowish to brown spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces.

Microscopic features

The mycelium of Puccinia loudetiae grows as with all Puccinia TYPES intercellular and forms Saugfäden that grow into the storage tissue of the host. Spermogonia or aecidia are not known. The uredia usually grow on the underside of the host's leaves. Their cinnamon - brown uredospores are ovate to ellipsoidal, 26–35 × 20–26 µm in size and finely spiky. The underside of the leaves of the species are dark brown and break out early. The golden or hazel-brown teleutospores are two-celled, elongated-ovoid to ellipsoidal and 30–40 × 17–20 µm in size; their stalk is up to 30 µm long and yellowish.

distribution

The known range of Puccinia loudetiae includes Uganda and Sierra Leone .

ecology

The host plants of Puccinia loudetiae are various Loudetia species. The fungus feeds on the nutrients present in the storage tissue of the plants, its spore beds later break through the leaf surface and release spores. The species has a development cycle with Telien and Uredien, which manages without change of host. Spermogonia and aecidia are absent.
