The Pukaskwa River is a tributary of Lake Superior in the Canadian province of Ontario .
The Pukaskwa River has its origin in Gibson Lake . It flows in the upper reaches through several smaller lakes in a west-southwest direction. South of Widgeon Lake , the river turns south, then turns west again. In a predominantly southwestern direction, the river flows through the eastern edge of the Pukaskwa National Park named after it and finally flows into the Upper Lake. The Pukaskwa River has a length of 56 km. The river has 57 rapids and is popular with whitewater canoeists . Ringham's Gorge , a 3 km long white water canyon, is considered the highlight of the river. Shortly before its mouth, the Pukaskwa River overcomes the 24 m high Schist Falls .
