Mount Pulag (also known by the name Mount Pulog ) is the third highest mountain in the Philippines and the highest peak on the northern main island of Luzon and is located in the southern center of the Cordillera Central . The borders of the provinces of Benguet , Ifugao and Nueva Vizcaya meet at the summit . The historical cave burial sites of the Ibaloi are partly on the flanks of the mountain, in them the Kabayan mummies were buried in the Middle Ages .

The climate on Mount Pulog is tropical with year-round rainfall. The average annual rainfall is 4489 mm. August is the wettest month with an average of 1135 mm. Occasionally snow falls on Mount Pulag in the cold seasons .

fauna and Flora

528 plant species have been described on Mount Pulag. It is the natural range of the endemic dwarf bamboo ( Yushania niitakayamensis ) and the Benguet pine ( Pinus insularis ). Among the native flora and fauna to 33 species of birds and several endangered species of mammals found as the Philippine deer ( Rusa marianna or Cervus mariannus ) leading to the Borken climbers belonging kind Crateromys schadenbergi and the long-haired fruit bat ( Stenonycteris lanosus ).

On February 20, 1987, a large part of the mountain was declared Mount Pulag National Park . This is to ensure better protection of the area from human influences, such as conversion to agricultural land, wood production, hunting and increasing tourism.

The indigenous people of Benguet consider the mountain a sacred place.
