Purgatory are a German death metal band from Nossen . They play what is known as old-school death metal.
history
The band was founded in 1993 by the musicians of the bands Musical Massacre and Procession.
After the first demo, they signed a contract with the German music label Perverted Taste and recorded the single EP Psychopathia Sexualis (- for the origin of the name, see: Psychopathia sexualis ). In autumn 1996 the band's debut album was released.
After ten years of working with the Perverted Taste label, Purgatory changed labels in the spring of 2004, as the band stated that Perverted Taste was too focused on its mail order delivery. A contract was signed with Animate Records .

Cover versions
The band recorded two cover versions for the split EP with Polymorph. Fiend for Blood from Autopsy and Corporation Pull In from Terrorizer .
On the second album Bestial the song Boneyard was covered by Impetigo . On the third album the band covered The Rack by Asphyx , on the fourth album the song Judas Billygoats / Judasböck by Lemming Project and on the latest album Pits of Utumno by Morgoth .
