The Puula -See [ puːlɑ ] (also Puulavesi ) in Puula- Kyyvesi -Seengebiet, located in the southeast of Finland in the countryside Savo and extends over the three municipalities Mikkeli , Hirvensalmi and Kangasniemi . The region was first settled by humans around 5000 BC. 24,000 people now live in this region.
The rugged lake system has a shore length of 2350 km. 1,434 islands are located in the area of the eleventh largest lake in Finland. The water area is approx. 330 km².
Thanks to the sparse population, there are many bird species in the region. The most common are polar divers , red- throated divers , herring gulls , storm gulls, laughing gulls and herring gulls , common terns , golden-bellied ducks , goosander , medium-sized saws , wild ducks, wigeons and swans. The abundance of fish in the region is also diverse. Professional fishermen mainly target small vendace. Hobby fishermen prefer perch, pike, salmon, trout, roach and great vendace.
The largest settlements on the shores of the lake are Kangasniemi (6,256 inhabitants), Hirvensalmi (2,579 inhabitants) and Haukivuori.
