Pyracanda is a thrash metal band from Koblenz that was founded in 1987. It renamed itself Ilex in 1992 before disbanding in 1997. Since 2019 the group has been active again under the name Pyracanda.

history

The band was founded in 1987 by bassist Rolf Koch, singer Dirk Pützfeld, drummer Elmar Gehenzig and guitarists Sven Fischer and Dennis Vaupel. Together they developed the first songs and released their first demo Welcome to the Crab-Louse-City the following year . In the same year Koch and Pützfeld left the band and were replaced by bassist Dieter Wittbecker and singer Hansi Nefen. Through the demo, No Remorse Records became aware of the band and signed them. In 1990, the debut album Two Sides of a Coin was released on this label , which was produced by Armin Sabol . In 1992 the second album followed with Thorns . It was released by Aaarrg Records . In the same year the band renamed itself to Ilex. In addition to Gehenzig, Sven Fischer was no longer part of the band and soon after joined Rage . In 1995 the band released a demo, which was followed by an EP in 1996. In 1997 the band broke up for good.

On November 19, 2010, 20 years after the release of the album Two Sides of a Coin , the band got together to play a single concert for the anniversary of the album. The gig took place in Koblenz, with Metal Inquisitor playing as the opening act.

In March 2019, Divebomb Records re-released Two Sides of a Coin , with previously unreleased songs as an addition, in the USA , which received a positive response. At the same time, Thorns was re-released in Ukraine and Russia . This was followed by several band rehearsals, with Patrick Grün bringing in Denis Schmidt, whom he already knew from his work at Caliban . The group then announced their reunion.

style

The band plays classic thrash metal, with the band being described as a rough version of the German band Despair .
