Qiu Hongmei (born March 2, 1983 ) is a Chinese weightlifter . In 2006 and 2007 she became world champion in the duel in the weight class up to 58 kg body weight.

Career

Qiu Hongmei is from Xinyu , Jiangxi Province . She lives and trains there too. She has been a member of the Chinese national women's weightlifting team since 2006, where she is trained by Ma Wenhui and Li Shunzhu.

In 2006 she was used at the World Championships in Santo Domingo , Dominican Republic , in the weight class up to 58 kg body weight. She achieved there in a duel 237 kg (107-130) and thus won the world title in front of Svetlana Zarukajewa , Russia , who achieved 233 kg (108-125) and Wandee Kaimeaim from Thailand , who weighed 230 kg (100-130).

In 2007 she won the Asian Championship in Tai'an in the weight class up to 58 kg body weight, where she delivered an exciting competition. It started with the fact that her first two attempts at snatch with 100 kg were invalid and she managed this load with difficulty on the third attempt. In the push she started with 127 kg, which she easily conquered, then she pushed 135 kg without any great effort. In the third attempt, she put the world record load of 141 kg on and managed this load too. She beat the world record of her compatriot, the Olympic champion Chen Yanqing, by 1 kg.

Qiu Hongmei delivered a similarly exciting competition at the 2007 World Cup in Chiangmai / Thailand . There she managed 103 kg in the snatch, which put her 2 kg behind the Russian Marina Schainowa , who achieved 105 kg in this discipline. In the push she started with 133 kg, which she couldn't manage, and her second attempt with 133 kg also failed. Since Marina Schainowa had pushed 132 kg and thus achieved 237 kg in a duel, Qiu Hongmei had to increase in her third attempt despite the two failed attempts from 133 kg to 135 kg if she still wanted to win. She managed the almost impossible, hit the 135 kg and thus became world champion for the second time with 238 kg in a duel.

In 2008 she naturally hoped for a place in the Olympic Games in Beijing . At the Chinese championship this year, however, she did not make it into the top three winners in her weight class, so she had no chance of being nominated for Beijing. The Chinese starting place in this weight class went to Chen Yanqing , who had become Chinese champion in 2008 with 245 kg (108-137).

In 2009 Qiu Hongmei was the third winner of the Chinese championship in the weight class up to 58 kg. She achieved 228 kg (100–128) in a duel. At the Chinese National Games in Jinan, she increased to an excellent 246 kg (109-137), which she finished second behind the only nineteen-year-old Li Xueying , 251 kg (111-140). At international championships it was not used in 2009.
