Xinyu ( Chinese  新余 市 , Pinyin Xīnyú Shì ) is a district-free city in the Chinese province of Jiangxi , about 135 km southwest of the provincial capital Nanchang on the Yuan He river .

Administrative structure

The administrative area of ​​the city has an area of ​​3,178 km² and about 1.11 million inhabitants (end of 2004). At the county level, Xinyu consists of a city district and a district. These are:

  • Yushui district (渝水区), 1,776 km², 1.08 million inhabitants, center and seat of the city government;
  • Fenyi district (分宜 县), 1,388 km², 310,000 inhabitants, main town: Fenyi municipality (分宜 镇).

The city is dominated by the steel mill of Xinyu Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. Since the government of Jiangxi Province is investing in the expansion of the steel site, the city is growing rapidly.

The climate is consistently very warm and humid in summer.

The city does not have its own airport, it uses the Nanchang airport, which is 2.5 hours away by motorway.

The city has several hotels.

One of the attractions is the nearby "fairy lake", a large lake with many islands and a resort.
