Tai'an ( Chinese 泰安 , Pinyin Tai'an ) is a Chinese city in the province of Shandong . It is located about 70 km south of the provincial capital Jinan and has an area of 7,761 km². The city has around 5.47 million inhabitants (as of 2002) , around 1.57 million people live in the two city districts. About 6% of the population are Christians. Wheat and corn are grown in the vicinity of the city.
The most important excursion destination in Tai'an is Mount Tai Shan (1,545 m) north of the city, also known as the East Mountain , which was already mentioned by Confucius and which is one of the sacred mountains of China. The Tai Shan is the most climbed mountain in the world. The most famous temple in the city is the Daoist Dai Miao temple complex .
Tai'an is connected to the Chinese rail network, making it easy to get to from major cities. It takes around 55 minutes to drive to the provincial capital, Jinan.

The district-free city of Tai'an is made up of two districts, two district-free cities and two districts. These are:
- Taishan District - 泰山 区Tàishān Qū ;
- Daiyue District - 岱岳 区Dàiyuè Qū ;
- Xintai City - 新泰 市Xīntài Shì ;
- Feicheng City - 肥 城市Féichéng Shì ;
- Circle Ningyang -宁阳县Ningyang Xiàn ;
- Dongping County - 东平县Dōngpíng Xiàn .
