The Québec was a British 32- gun - frigate , the 1756 FHChapmann on behalf of the Royal British Navy designed and on July 14, 1760 at "Barnard Shipyards" from the stack was left.

In the course of the American War of Independence , Great Britain and France also got into the war. The first individual battle between two ships of these two nations took place on October 6, 1779 between the French frigate La Surveillante and the HMS Quebec off Ushant . The battle lasted three and a half hours.

On October 6, 1779, the Quebec was sent under her captain Georg Farmer to watch the port of Brest . In the middle of the English Channel she met the Surveillante , who was under the command of Du Couedic de Kergoualer , who was to watch the port of Plymouth . The fight started at eleven in the morning. After a long time in which the ships had broadside each other, both sides complained of serious damage and numerous dead and injured. When they were within boarding distance , a fire broke out on the Quebec and the naval battle evolved into a French rescue operation in which more than 60 British seamen were rescued. The Quebec sank along with her captain Farmer, who was posthumously ennobled for this behavior .
