Ferdinand J. Quénisset

Ferdinand Jules Quénisset (* 1872 ; † 1951 ) was a French astronomer .

He worked from 1892 to 1893 and, after his return from military service, from 1906 to 1951 as an observer at Camille Flammarion's private observatory in Juvisy-sur-Orge .

One of his predecessors in this position was the celebrated Eugène Antoniadi , who returned to his homeland in 1902 to get married. (Antoniadi returned to France in 1908 to work at the Meudon Observatory ).

Ferdinand Quénisset made numerous drawings and photographs of the planets Venus , Mars and Jupiter as well as the moon of the earth .

He discovered comet C / 1911 S2 (Quenisset) and was a co-discoverer of C / 1893 N1 (Rordame-Quenisset).

In 1973 the IAU named a crater on Mars in his honor, Quenisset .
