Qu Yinhua

Qu Yinhua ( Chinese  屈 銀華  /  屈 银华 , Pinyin Qū Yínhuá , also written as Chu Yin (g) -hua ; born March 3, 1935 , † September 19, 2016 in Beijing ) was a Chinese mountaineer who was the first to climb the Mount Everest on the north side succeeded.

Qu Yinhua was one of the first to climb Muztagata (7,546 meters) in 1956 as part of a Soviet-Chinese expedition .

In 1960 he was on an expedition on the northern route of Mount Everest and was one of the four climbers on the summit team. Together with the Tibetan Konbu (also Gongbu, Gonpa) and the Chinese Wang Fuzhou , he reached the summit on May 25, 1960. This ascent was controversial for many years because there is no meaningful summit photo, but it is now generally recognized. Qu Yinhua's performance on this ascent made mountain sports history. After his teammate Liu Lianman failed again and again on the last big obstacle, the second step - a 12-meter-high vertical cliff at a height of about 8,610 meters - Qu Yinhua took off his shoes and stockings and walked barefoot from the shoulders of a team-mate the second step to overcome.

The first ascent via this route was also used for propaganda purposes and highlighted by the Maoist government of China as a sign of the superiority of the communist system .
