Quadrart Dornbirn

Quadrart Dornbirn is a non-commercial forum for exhibitions in Dornbirn, financed with private funds from the “Foundation for the Promotion of Contemporary Art Erhard Witzel iG” . According to its own statement, its aim is to promote a high-quality dialogue about contemporary art.

Architecture

The three-story exhibition house including a basement, which is generally used for exhibition purposes, was planned in 2007 by the Vorarlberg architect Heinz Wäger ( Vorarlberg architect ) and completed in 2008. On more than 500 m² there are two large exhibition rooms, a library open to the public with more than 3800 artist monographs, and a guest studio.

In June 2009 the Kunsthalle opened with its first exhibition.

Exhibitions

There are four exhibitions p. a. instead of.

From 2009 to 2015 and 2019 the format "Views" with four presentations each. From 2016 to 2018 there were only 3 exhibitions, as the “Dialog” format, which took place in cooperation with the Vorarlberg Museum, filled the fourth exhibition cycle.

At the turn of the year 2019/2020, the “Views” format will be replaced by the “In good company” format. There will then be 3 exhibitions per year under this title. A fourth exhibition in each annual cycle is devoted to thematic presentations of the

Collection by Erhard Witzel.

Views

The basis of the exhibition projects is the art collection of Erhard Witzel. National and international curators will be invited. These curators select an aspect from the collection and, under the title “Views”, confront it with a concept that must be devoted to contemporary art.

dialog

As a cooperation partner of the vorarlberg museum , Bregenz, a selected comparison of works from the collection of the vorarlberg museum and the Erhard Witzel collection was shown once a year with the format: "Dialog", for each of which a catalog was published.

In good company

The focus of this exhibition format should be the presentation of primarily Vorarlberg artists. An artist will be invited as a curator, so u. a. Doris Fend, Kirsten Helfrich, Christine Lederer, Markus Grabher, Roland Haas , Hermann Präg. This curator invites three to five colleagues who then work together on a project in the Quadrart Dornbirn. It is envisaged that artists from the fields of literature, theater, music, architecture and film will also be involved in these projects.
