Peter Joch (* 1962 in Krefeld ) is a German art historian and museum curator .

Life

Joch studied art history and German in Aachen, Berlin, Florence and Rome. He was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation . In 1998 he received his doctorate from RWTH Aachen with a thesis on Nicolas Poussin . From 2001 to the end of 2013 Joch was director of the Kunsthalle Darmstadt . In 2013 it became known that SAP co- founder Hasso Plattner had hired Joch as director of his donor museum Palast Barberini in Potsdam. In February 2015, Joch left this building that was being established. At the end of October 2016, the city ​​of Braunschweig announced that Joch was the designated new director of the Braunschweig Municipal Museum . He took office on February 1, 2017.

Publications

Joch u. a. on French classicism , landscape painting of the 19th century, the history of exhibition and contemporary art from Arab countries, Korean Minjung art, the tradition of the readymade and the work of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner .
