The Quai de la Gare underground station is a high-level station on the Paris Métro . It is served by Métrolinie 6 .

location

The station is located in the 13th arrondissement of Paris . It lies above the median of the Boulevard Vincent-Auriol, which forms the border between the Quartier de la Gare and the Quartier de la Salpêtrière, near the southern bank of the Seine .

Surname

It is named after the quai de la Gare embankment. Their name does not refer to the nearby long-distance train station Gare d'Austerlitz , but to a berth (fr: gare d'eau) for ships on the Seine. Around 1760 a basin was created there for this purpose .

history

The station went into operation on March 1, 1909, when the line from Place d'Italie to Nation was opened. The opening of the building, completed in 1906, was delayed by three years because the operating company CMP wanted to avoid a deficit in the operation of this then peripheral section of the route.

The engineer responsible for the construction of the elevated railway line was Louis Biette , the station was designed by Jean Camille Formigé . In July 1974 the line was converted to run on pneumatic trains .

description

The structure of the station corresponds to that of most other stations in the elevated position of line 6. It is 75 m long and has 4.10 m wide side platforms on two parallel tracks. Two longitudinal beams, each resting on a row of iron columns, carry the track bed and the inner edges of the platforms. Their outer edges and the side walls rest on two further longitudinal girders, which are supported by brick pillars. At the four corners of the station, a pillar protrudes over the roof for design reasons. The entire length of the station is provided with a gable roof - glass near the ridge - which also spans the tracks. The brick side walls show geometric ornaments on the outside.

The only exit is to the nearby bank of the Seine. In contrast to most of the elevated train stations on line 6, the lower section of the staircase, which is divided halfway up, has been pivoted by 180 ° for reasons of space and leads under the underground station. In addition, two escalators lead to the platforms.

Immediately to the northeast, the elevated railway crosses the Quai de la Gare street and then the river over the Pont de Bercy . On the southwest side, the line runs over Rue Fernand Braudel and then crosses the apron of the Gare d'Austerlitz station.

vehicles

Initially, Sprague-Thomson trains ran on the route . In July 1974 it was converted to rubber-tyred vehicles, and since then it has been running trains of the MP 73 series made up of three multiple units and two sidecars .

Surroundings

Remarks

  1. At the similarly constructed elevated railway stations on Line 2, the side walls are glazed and only the platforms, but not the tracks, are covered
  2. A railcar with a one-sided driver's cab runs at each end of the train, with a driverless cab and two non-motorized sidecars in between
