Quatuor Parrenin

The Quatuor Parrenin , also known internationally as the Parrenin Quartet , was a Paris- based French string quartet founded in 1944 and existing until 1987.

history

The founding members of Quatuor Parrenin all came from the chamber music class of Joseph Calvet at the Paris Conservatory . From 1944 to 1949 the ensemble was the official string quartet of Radio Luxemburg . There was a concert there every week, interpreting classical, romantic and contemporary repertoire. The quartet was responsible for more than 150 world premieres.

The quartet was the only French ensemble of its time to record all of the string quartets of the Vienna School and all of Béla Bartók's string quartets . In addition, it played the quartets by Cesar Franck , Claude Debussy , Maurice Ravel , Gabriel Faure and  Jacques Ibert , parts of livres by Pierre Boulez , the Concerto for Piano, Violin and String Quartet by  Ernest Chausson and the late romantic piece Transfigured Night by Arnold Schoenberg , a .

The quartet was a member of the Domaine Musical in Paris and the ensembles of contemporary music Darmstadt .
