Questenberger Roland

The Questenberger Roland is located in Questenberg , a district of the municipality of Südharz in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt , about 12 km west of the district town of Sangerhausen in the Lower Harz . The listed Roland statue was first mentioned in 1730; their size is over 3 meters. Questenberg has never been a place of greater importance, so the reasons for putting up a Roland statue are unclear. The assumptions range from a symbol for market and minting rights to a mere copy of the Nordhausen Roland , which the Questenberger looks very similar.

In 1976, the Roland was replaced by a new oak wood figure, it is considered the most recent new installation and was realized by a local craftsman. In 2014, the figure in need of restoration had to move to a covered stage on the fairground as a protective measure until restoration.
