Quintinia is a genus of plants inthe Paracryphiaceae family . The species of this genus occur in the southwestern Pacific region : from the Philippines via New Guinea , Australia (around four species), New Zealand (around three species) to New Caledonia (six species). The genus includes about 14 to 25 species . The generic name honors the French lawyer and gardener Jean-Baptiste de La Quintinie (1626–1688).

description

The Quintinia species are evergreen shrubs or trees . The alternate and spirally arranged, stalked, simple leaves have a smooth, serrated or serrated edge . Stipules are missing.

There are terminal or axillary racemose or spiked inflorescences formed. The hermaphrodite, radially symmetrical flowers are five-fold . The five sepals are fused in the lower half. The five petals are free or fused. There is only one circle with five free stamens . Three to five carpels have become an under constant ovary grown. The style is long and the stigma is three- to five-lobed. They form three to five-fold capsule fruits .

Systematics

The classification of the genus Quintinia was controversial. They were placed among the Saxifragaceae or Escalloniaceae , for example . Today it is part of the Paracryphiaceae family .
