Station Naha Kuko the Okinawa Monorail

The Naha Airport ( Jap. 那覇空港 , Naha Kuko ) is a regional airport in the Japanese city of Naha on the island of Okinawa . It is located about 2 kilometers west of the city center. The airport Naha applies to the Japanese legislation as airport 2nd class . It mainly serves national connections, although there are also some international connections, mostly to South Korea, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The Naha Air Base is also located on the airport premises .

In 2018, 17,539,078 passengers were handled in domestic flight operations and 3,843,337 passengers in international flight operations.

Airlines and Destinations

Domestically, there are connections to Tokyo-Haneda , Fukuoka , Nagoya-Chūbu and Osaka-Itami mainly through the airlines All Nippon Airways , Japan Airlines , Peach Aviation and Skymark . Regionally, the airlines Japan Transocean Air and Ryūkyū Air Commuter mainly serve the airports Neu-Ishigaki and Miyako .

Internationally there are connections to Taiwan Taoyuan , Kaohsiung , Incheon , Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi and Hong Kong through the airlines Peach Aviation, China Airlines , Eva Air , Tigerair Taiwan , Mandarin Airlines , Korean Air and Asiana Airlines . In addition, Air China , China Eastern Airlines , Juneyao Airlines and Beijing Capital Airlines fly to various destinations in the People's Republic of China , including Beijing and Shanghai Pudong . In Southeast Asia, Jetstar Asia Airways serves Singapore and AirAsia X Kuala Lumpur .

expansion

Since the limits of the handling capacity were reached due to the increased demand, the prefecture approved the funds for the expansion in January 2008 and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has officially commissioned the expansion of the runway. The planning was completed in 2012. The second parallel runway with a length of 2700 meters was built between January 2014 and December 2019 on an island raised in the water. The new slope opened on March 26, 2020.
