Peach Aviation , or Peach for short ( Japanese Peach Aviation 株式会社 , Pīchi abiēshon Kabushiki-gaisha ), is a Japanese low-cost airline based in Osaka and based at Kansai Airport . It is a subsidiary of ANA Holdings .

history

Peach Aviation headquarters in the “Aeroplaza” building at Kansai Airport

Peach Aviation was launched at the beginning of 2011. At that time still under the working title A&F Aviation , the Hong Kong- based investor group First Eastern and the Japanese airline All Nippon Airways agreed on the establishment of a joint venture , which should start as a cheap subsidiary of ANA. The base should be the Kansai Airport in Osaka.

In May we changed the name of the company in "Peach Aviation", the peach (Engl. Peach ) in the region happiness, energy and long life is. In addition, the letters in Peach can be swapped for Cheap. In the meantime, the company had come closer to starting operations and had committed to leasing 10 Airbus A320-200s from GECAS . The planes were to have maximum seating with 180 seats. Peach describes itself as the first Japanese low-cost airline, which is also confirmed by the fact that Peach Aviation is well below the carriers previously referred to as low-cost airlines in Japan in terms of price and service, which is roughly on par with easyJet , for example . The contract for the aircraft was signed in February and provided for the aircraft to be handed over gradually over a period of two years from the end of 2011. At the beginning of November 2011 the first plane arrived in Japan; ticket sales started on January 5, 2012.

In the middle of the year, the date for the first flight, which had previously been vaguely set sometime between mid-2010 and early 2011, was set for March 2012.

In August 2015, Peach Aviation opened its fourth hub with a new route from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Taiwan Taoyuan Airport in Taipei .

In April 2017, ANA Holdings , the parent company of All Nippon Airways, increased its stake in Peach Aviation from 38.7% to 67.0%, making it a subsidiary of ANA Holdings.

In September 2017, the airline's fifth hub followed with flights from Sendai Airport to New Chitose and Taiwan Taoyuan.

In March 2018, ANA announced that it wanted to merge Peach Aviation and the Tokyo-Narita- based ANA subsidiary Vanilla Air by April 2020, whereby the “Vanilla Air” brand would disappear. This is done, among other things, in order to be able to position itself more effectively and uniformly in the Asian low-cost flight market. In July 2018, Peach Aviation converted 2 orders for Airbus A320neo into Airbus A321LR with extended range. Peach will be the first Asian operator of this type, serving long-haul destinations in Asia. In January 2019, an additional 18 Airbus A320neo aircraft were ordered to replace the existing Airbus A320 fleet, and these are to be delivered over a period of 5 years from 2021.

The shareholders of Peach Aviation are ANA Holdings (67.0%), First Eastern Aviation Holdings (17.9%) and INCJ (15.1%).

Destinations

In addition to domestic destinations, Peach Aviation serves cities in Southeast and East Asia from its five aviation hubs .
