Air Nippon ( Japanese エ ア ー ニ ッ ポ ン 株式会社 , Eā Nippon Kabushiki gaisha ) was a Japanese regional airline based in Tokyo and based at Tokyo Haneda Airport . It was a subsidiary of All Nippon Airways .
history
Air Nippon was founded in March 1974 with the Japanese name Nippon Kinkyori Kōkū ( 日本 近距離 航空 ) by the companies All Nippon Airways , Japan Air Lines and TOA Domestic and began flight operations on October 10, 1974. The airline got its current name in 1987. The abbreviation “ANK” comes from the full Japanese name Air Nippon Kabushiki-gaisha .
With the reorganization of All Nippon Airways, all national flights were transferred to the parent company's system. Until April 2004, Air Nippon and All Nippon Airways had different liveries of the aircraft and different IATA airline codes . Most recently, Air Nippon has a similar paint job, which only differs in the Air Nippon lettering next to the ANA logo. As a subsidiary of All Nippon Airways, Air Nippon was a full Star Alliance member. The only exceptions were the flights to Taiwan , which for political reasons were flown under the company's own IATA code "EL" and therefore did not belong to the Allianz network.
At the beginning of April 2012, Air Nippon was dissolved and integrated, including its aircraft, into the parent company ANA.
aims
Air Nippon flew mostly short routes and served destinations on small Japanese islands in cooperation with the regional flights of the parent company All Nippon Airways. There were also options to change to the sister company ANA Wings . The only international destination was Taiwan Taoyuan Airport near Taipei .
fleet
As of March 2012, the Air Nippon fleet consisted of 39 aircraft:
- Boeing 737-500 3
- 16 Boeing 737-700
- 17 Boeing 737-800
- De Havilland DHC- 8-300 ( leased to ANA Wings ) 3
In the past, Air Nippon also operated Airbus A320-200 , Boeing 737-400 and NAMC YS-11 aircraft .
