Japan Asia Airways ( Japanese 日本 ア ジ ア 航空 , Nihon Ajia Kōkū Kabushiki-gaisha , JAA for short ) was a Japanese airline based in Tokyo and based at Tokyo Narita Airport . It was a subsidiary of Japan Airlines .

history

After the Chinese government banned flights between Japan and Taiwan for the airlines JAL and Air China , JAL founded the subsidiary Japan Asia Airways on August 8, 1975 . It took flight operations on September 15, 1975. At first, JAA only used former JAL aircraft. Among other things, aircraft such as the Boeing 747-100 and Douglas DC-8-61 were used.

In 1985, other destinations such as Hong Kong and Okinawa were added to the flight plan, but they have since been discontinued. A year later, a Boeing 747-300 and two Boeing 767-300s were procured.

In 2008, JAL announced that it would operate the Taiwan flights itself and fully integrate the JAA into JAL. Japan Asia Airways made its last flight on March 31, 2008.
