history

Hokkaido Air System was founded in 1997 and began flight operations in 1998. The company was a subsidiary of Japan Air System , which later merged with Japan Airlines .

On April 1, 2006, the last route, Hakodate - Okushiri , was taken over by the insolvent Air Hokkaido .

In March 2011, HAC left the JAL Group due to its restructuring. HAC was now owned by the government of Hokkaidō (36.5%), Japan Airlines (14.5%), Sapporo (13.5%) and 35.5% in free float.

In August 2013 Japan Airlines was asked by the Liberal Democratic Party to make the financially ailing Hokkaido Air System its subsidiary again.

In October 2014, Japan Airlines' stake rose to 51.2%, making HAC a subsidiary of JAL again. At Farnborough International Airshow 2018, the airline signed a letter of intent to purchase two ATR 42-600s to replace the aging Saab 340s.
