Vanilla Air ( Japanese バ ニ ラ ・ エ ア 株式会社 , Banira Ea Kabushiki-gaisha ), originally AirAsia Japan , was a Japanese low-cost airline based in Narita and based at Tokyo Narita Airport . It was a subsidiary of ANA Holdings and a member of the Value Alliance aviation alliance . Flight operations ceased on October 26, 2019.
history
Vanilla Air was created on November 1, 2013 from the renaming of AirAsia Japan, after AirAsia withdrew from the joint venture with ANA Holdings , the parent company of All Nippon Airways , and the latter took over all shares . Regular flight operations started on December 20, 2013.
In March 2018, ANA announced that it would merge Vanilla Air and the Osaka- based other ANA subsidiary Peach Aviation by April 2020, whereby the “Vanilla Air” brand would disappear. This is done, among other things, in order to be able to position itself more effectively and uniformly in the Asian low-cost flight market. In the following months, the Vanilla Air routes were handed over to Peach Aviation one after the other. Vanilla Air's flight operations finally ceased on October 26, 2019 with the handover of the last remaining route Tokyo-Narita - Taiwan Taoyuan . The legal merger took place on November 1, 2019. 12 of the 15 Airbus A320-200s took over after the cessation of flight operations Peach Aviation, while the remaining three aircraft went to ANA.
