Nok Air Plc. ( Thai นก แอร์ ) is a Thai low-cost airline based in Bangkok and based at Don Mueang Airport .
history
Nok Air was founded on February 10, 2004 as Sky Asia Co., Ltd. founded. On January 16, 2006, Sky Asia was renamed Nok Airlines Co., Ltd. renamed. The airline is an investment company with both public and private investors. Nok means bird in Thai and is meant to embody friendship and the freedom to travel. The planes have different, colorful paintwork, each depicting a bird.
The subsidiary NokScoot was founded together with Scoot and started operating on May 5, 2015. Nok Scout ceased operations on June 26, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic ..
The shareholders of Nok Air are Thai Airways International (39.2%), Aviation Investment International Limited (10%), CPB Equity Company Limited (4.8%), Mr. Patee Sarasin, Siam Commercial Bank , King Power International Company Limited and Mr. Supapong Asvinvichit with 4% each, Citigroup Global Markets Limited (1.3%) as well as Social Security Office and Provident Fund of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand with 0.5% each.
Nok Air filed for bankruptcy on July 30, 2020.

Within Thailand, Nok Air flies from Bangkok-Don Mueang to Buri Ram , Chiang Mai , Chiang Rai , Chumphon , Hat Yai , Khon Kaen , Krabi , Lampang , Loei , Mae Sot , Nakhon Phanom , Nakhon Si Thammarat , Nan , Phitsanulok , Phrae , Phuket , Ranong , Roi Et , Sakon Nakhon , Surat Thani , Trang , Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani .
In Southeast Asia there are flights to Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City , Yangon and various destinations in central / eastern China.

Incidents
- On February 7, 2020, a fatal accident occurred during a towing operation at Don Muaeng Airport , in which the tow bar broke and the tow vehicle was run over by a Boeing 737-800 operated by Nok Air. The driver died.
