The Mae Fah Luang Airport Chiang Rai ( Thai : ท่าอากาศยาน นานาชาติ แม่ ฟ้า หลวง เชียงราย , English: Mae Fah Luang-Chiang Rai International Airport; IATA code : CEI, ICAO: VTCT) is an international airport in the city of Chiang Rai . Chiang Rai is located in the northern region of Thailand .

General

The airport is located about eight kilometers northeast of Chiang Rai. Since 1998 it has been operated by the Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT). There is a terminal with two levels and two passenger boarding bridges .

The domestic airlines Thai Smile (a subsidiary of Thai Airways), Thai AirAsia , Bangkok Airways , Nok Air and Thai Lion Air operate at the airport and offer domestic connections - mainly with the two Bangkok airports. The only international scheduled connection that will be offered in spring 2016 is with China Eastern Airlines from / to Kunming-Changshui in the southern Chinese province of Yunnan .

The airport is managed by Yuttana Chitrobaree.

With 1.75 million passengers per year (as of 2015), Chiang Rai is the second important commercial airport in the northern region (next to Chiang Mai ) and the tenth most frequented airport in Thailand.
