Thai AirAsia ( Thai ไทย แอร์ เอเชีย ) is a Thai low-cost airline based in Bangkok and based at Don Mueang Airport .
history
Thai AirAsia was founded on December 8, 2003 as a joint venture between the Malaysian AirAsia or its founder Tony Fernandes and the Thai Shin Corporation and began domestic air traffic on January 13, 2004.
In order to have a national airline license in Thailand, 51 percent of the capital must come from Thai investors. The sale of a $ 1.88 billion block of shares by the family of Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to Temasek Holdings in Singapore in January 2006 put this premise at risk. On February 15, 2006 it was announced that Asia Aviation , a registered Thai company, had acquired the 50 percent stake in Shin Corporation. However, this was founded as a joint venture of Shin Corporation, which holds 49 percent of Asia Aviation. In May 2007, Thai AirAsia took over Asia Aviation. Asia Aviation (50 percent), AirAsia (49 percent) and the CEO of Thai AirAsia, Tassapon Bijleveld (1 percent) are the main shareholders of the company.
On October 1, 2012, Thai AirAsia relocated its home base from Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi to Bangkok-Don Mueang .
