Thai Smile Airways ( Thai การบินไทย ส มา ย ล์ ) is a Thai low-cost airline based in Bangkok and based at Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi Airport . It is a subsidiary of Thai Airways International .
history
Thai Airways International founded a joint venture with Tiger Airways on August 2, 2010 under the name Thai Tiger . However, after the Thai government did not issue a license for the new airline until August 2011, the joint venture was given up in September 2011 . Instead, Thai Airways founded Thai Smile in the summer of 2012 . Thai Smile is the second low-cost airline of Thai Airways after Nok Air . On January 18, 2013, Thai Airways International announced that Thai Smile would operate as an independent airline under the name Thai Smile Airways Co., Ltd after approval by the Senate . The registered capital of Thai Smile Airways is 1.8 billion Baht . Thai Airways still holds 100% of Thai Smile.
Thai Smile has been flying under its own IATA code WE since October 2, 2014 and has withdrawn from code sharing with Thai Airways and thus from the Star Alliance . Thai Smile Connecting has been a Star Alliance partner since February 25, 2020 .
Destinations
Thai Smile mainly flies from Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi to destinations within Thailand . Cities in Southeast Asia are also served.
