AirAsia Philippines (from October 2013 under the AirAsia Zest brand ) was a Filipino airline based in Manila . The company merged with sister company Zest Airways in autumn 2015 , resulting in Philippines AirAsia .

history

AirAsia Philippines was founded in December 2010 as a subsidiary of the Malaysian AirAsia Bhd. founded. This took over 40 percent of the company shares, the remaining shares were each held by the Filipino entrepreneurs Antonio O. Cojuangco, Michael R. Romero and Marianne B. Hontiveros. On February 7, 2012, the Philippine Aviation Authority issued the airline an Air Operator Certificate . Operations began in May 2012 with two Airbus A320 aircraft , which were stationed at Clark International Airport, located around 80 kilometers northwest of the Philippine capital Manila .

For faster expansion, the Malaysian parent company AirAsia acquired a 49 percent stake in Zest Airways , another Filipino airline that mainly served routes departing from Manila Airport . After the takeover of Zest Airways , it operated under the name AirAsia Zest from October 2013 . At the same time, the brand name and corporate design of AirAsia Philippines were changed accordingly. Both companies remained two separate companies under aviation law, each of which carried out their operations with their own Air Operator Certificate.

The Malaysian parent company increased its stake in Zest Airways to 51 percent in September 2015 and thus took over the majority in this airline. At the same time, the shareholders of AirAsia Philippines and Zest Airways received stakes in each other. Both airlines were merged in autumn 2015 with effect from the end of the year. Philippines AirAsia emerged from the merger . This uses the Air Operator Certificate from the former Zest Airways to carry out its flight operations.
