The Ubon Ratchathani Airport ( Thai : ท่าอากาศยาน อุบลราชธานี ; IATA Code : UBP, ICAO code : VTUU) is a national airport on the northeastern outskirts of Ubon Ratchathani , the capital of the province of Ubon Ratchathani in the Northeast region of Thailand , the Isan .
In 2015 1.47 million passengers were handled. Ubon Ratchathani is (after Udon Thani ) the second busiest airport in Isan. The number of passengers more than tripled between 2010 and 2015.
In spring 2016, five Thai airlines are offering domestic connections - mainly with Bangkok-Don Mueang .
Military use
Ubon Ratchathani Airport is both a civil and military airport used by the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF). The 2nd Air Division / 21st Wing Air Combat Command is stationed here.
During the Vietnam War , the airport was used by the United States Air Force ( Pacific Air Forces ) from 1964 to 1975. There was also an AFTN broadcasting studio here .
