Pacific Air Forces
The Pacific Air Forces ( PACAF ; German Pacific Air Forces ) form in addition to the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) is one of two aligned regions of the nine main commands of the United States Air Force (USAF) and serve as a component command of air forces within its parent United States Pacific Command (USPACOM). The headquarters are on the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii . At the end of September 2006, the PACAF staff consisted of around 45,900 employees, including 5,100 reservists and 7,900 civilians. General Charles Q. Brown has been in command since July 26, 2018 .
assignment
The main task is to protect and enforce US interests in the entire Asia-Pacific region. The area of responsibility extends from the west coast of the USA to the east coast of Africa and from the Arctic to the Antarctic . The area of responsibility of the PACOM and thus also the PACAF covers over half of the earth's surface with an area of over 100 million square miles and 60% of the world's population. The air force bases in this region are of great strategic importance, especially in times of crisis .

- 7th Air Fleet ( Seventh Air Force ), Osan AB , South Korea
- 11th Air Fleet ( Eleventh Air Force ), Elmendorf AFB , Alaska
- 13th Air Fleet / Kenney Warfighting Headquarters ( Thirteenth Air Force ), Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam , Hawaii

- 354th Fighter Wing ( Eielson AFB )
- 374th Airlift Wing (Yokota AB)
equipment
The equipment includes around 325 aircraft of different types: Around 265 combat aircraft ( F-15 , F-16 , F-22 , A-10 ), almost 40 transport aircraft (C-12, C-17 , C-21 , C-37 , C-40 , C-130 ), as well as some tanker planes ( KC-135 ), reconnaissance planes ( E-3 ) and helicopters ( UH-1 , HH-60 ).
history
First, on 31 July 1944 were Far East Air Forces established and on 3 August the same year in Brisbane , Australia , ready for use . On December 6, 1945, the name was changed to Pacific Air Command , which in turn became the Far East Air Forces on January 1, 1947 . Today's Pacific Air Forces have existed since July 1, 1957 .
