StarFlyer Inc. ( Japanese 株式会社 ス タ ー フ ラ イ ヤ ー Kabushiki kaisha Sutāfuraiyā ) is a Japanese airline based in Kitakyūshū and based at Kitakyūshū Airport .

history

StarFlyer's headquarters

The company was founded on December 17, 2002 as Kobe Airlines ( 神 戸 航空 Kobe Kōkū ) and should originally be located at the new Kobe Airport . The following year the airline was renamed StarFlyer and moved to Kitakyushu Airport . The colors black and white dominate the company's appearance - from the paintwork of the aircraft to the design of the check-in counters and lounges to the website. StarFlyer, which originally appeared as a low-cost airline , differs significantly from well-known low-cost airlines such as Ryanair , Easyjet or Germanwings . The Airbus A320-200 , designed for up to 180 passengers in one class, was fitted with only 144 leather seats, all of which are equipped with LCD monitors . In addition, there is a socket at every seat for operating notebooks, among other things. StarFlyer also offers its passengers a lounge on the ground. All aircraft in the fleet have the words "City of Kitakyushu" or "Spirit of Kitakyushu" on the stern, thus promoting the city in the north of the island of Kyūshū .

StarFlyer entered into a cooperation with All Nippon Airways on August 17, 2005, which includes the management of the fleet and crews.

The initial capital of 1.822 million yen (≈16.2 million euros ) was increased by the companies involved to almost 4 billion yen (~ 27.7 million euros) at the end of 2005. In the same year, Takaaki Hori took over the management of the company from Osako Shinobu.

The booking center was opened in Kokura on January 16, 2006. After just a few minutes, the tickets for the first flights in May were sold out. A StarFlyer aircraft opened Kitakyushu Airport on February 8, 2006, which was built on an artificial island off the coast. In 2006 the company received the "Good Design Award 2006" for the design created by Flower Robotics Inc.

After delivery of the first three brand-new Airbus A320-200s, flight operations began on May 16, 2006, three months after the opening of Kitakyushu Airport. The first flight connection was between Kitakyushu and Tokyo-Haneda .

In October 2018, StarFlyer launched its first scheduled international destination. From now on there will be a daily connection from Chūbu and Kitakyūshu Airports to Taiwan Taoyuan Airport near Taipei .

ANA Holdings , Bank of Yamaguchi , Daiichi Kotsu Sangyo , Nippon Steel Corporation , Toto Corporation , Yasukawa Electric Corporation and Zenrin hold shares in StarFlyer .
