Air Do ( Japanese 株式会社 AIRDO Kabushiki kaisha Ea Du ), formerly Hokkaido International Airlines ( 北海道 国際 航空 Hokkaidō Kokusai Kōkū ), is a Japanese low-cost airline based in Sapporo and based at Tokyo Haneda Airport .
history
Air Do was founded in 1996 on Hokkaidō as Hokkaido International Airlines and began flight operations at the end of 1998. The fleet initially consisted of two Boeing 767-300s and was later expanded to include another unit and two Boeing 737-400s .
Air Do was Japan's first low-cost airline, but adjusted its tariff system under pressure from two major Japanese airlines, All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines .
All Nippon Airways has owned 13.6% of Air Do since 2008 and all flights are operated with it as code share flights.
In October 2012, the company changed its name from Hokkaido International Airlines in Air Do . The abbreviation "Do" is derived from "Hokkai do ".
