Marcus Tullius Cicero (106–43 BC)

Quintus Volusius Saturninus was a senator of the late Roman Republic and lived in the 1st century BC. Chr.

Quintus Volusius Saturninus came from the plebeian family of the Volusii ( Gens Volusia ), from which some praetors and senators had emerged. Saturninus was the cognomen of this branch of the family. The Volusii Saturnini seem to have been resident in Lucus Feroniae . In any case, Quintus Volusius Saturninus acquired around 50 BC. In the vicinity of the village there was an estate that is now known as Villa dei Volusii .

Quintus Volusius Saturninus was a student of the Roman politician , lawyer , writer and philosopher Cicero , who was considered the most famous orator of his time and was published in 63 BC. Chr. Consul was. 51 BC Cicero was sent to Cilicia as governor . Saturninus apparently accompanied Cicero there and gave him from 51 to 50 BC. Served as prefect . Cicero described Saturninus as trustworthy and extraordinarily measured.

During his prefecture in Cilicia, Cicero sent him to Cyprus with instructions to stay for a few days in order to prevent the few Romans who did business there from feeling that they had no legal remedies because it was illegal Charging residents of Cyprus outside the island to court. This unusual prohibition on summoning a defendant or a witness appears to stem from Cicero's provincial decree. Cicero probably hired Volusius because he was too busy himself. Quintus Volusius later appears to have acted as a lawyer and defense attorney in court cases.

Quintus Volusius Saturninus was married to Claudia, the daughter of Tiberius Claudius Nero. Claudia's brother was Tiberius Claudius Nero , first husband of Livia Drusilla and father of the future emperor Tiberius and Drusus . Quintus Volusius and Claudia had a son, Lucius Volusius Saturninus (around 60 BC - 20 AD).
