Qurnet Murai ( Arabic قرنة مرعي Qurnat Mura'i , DMG Qurnat Muraʿī ) is a small hill west of the temple of Amenophis III. , which forms the southernmost part of the ancient Egyptian necropolis in Thebes-West . It mainly houses private graves from the second half of the 18th dynasty .

There are many undecorated rock tombs on the hill, seventeen of which have been officially numbered. The settlement with graves, similar to Sheikh Abd el-Qurna , began during the second half of the 11th dynasty . Several large saff graves date from this period and are now hidden behind modern houses. The modern village caused the destruction and disappearance of numerous graves. Other graves date from the first half of the 18th dynasty and the Ramesside period , but most of them date from the time of Amenhotep III. , Eje and Tutankhamun . Nearby are the mortuary temples of these kings and Malkatta , the palace town of Amenhotep III.

High-ranking officials were buried on the site, including the viceroy of Kush , Merimose and possibly also the architect Amenophis (son of Hapu) , who owned his own mortuary temple nearby .

In Coptic times, on the northern part of the hill, the monastery of St. Markus , which is one of the best preserved ancient Coptic buildings in West Thebes.
