Bald eagle

The sanctuary is located on Ottawa in the Rapides-des-Joachims parish in the regional county town of Pontiac . It serves to protect the wintering areas of the eponymous species, the bald eagle . The area belongs to the hautes-terres laurentiennes , the areas that are above the Laurentine area, which in turn is named after the St. Lawrence River . The height classification of the small area ranges from 110 to 275  m above sea level. NN It is characterized by gneiss , quartz and limestone. River valleys accompanied by terraces were created during the Ice Age . Dominated partly by coniferous and partly by deciduous forest, weymouth pine , American red oak , sugar maple and red spruce stand out, but poplars and other tree species also appear. The bird of prey has probably settled here and winters here because it finds enough dead fish in the neighboring reservoirs, which are killed by the turbines of the power generator.
