Río Colorado is the capital of the Pichi Mahuida department in the Río Negro Province in southern Argentina .

history

During the desert campaign in 1879, Julio Argentino Roca's troops crossed the Río Colorado and pitched their camp in a shady spot on the far bank and named it Buena Parada (Good Stopping Place). In the 20th century, Buena Parada became the capital of the Adolfo Alsina department . With the construction of the railway, a train station was built about 3 kilometers away and the population was relocated. This became Río Colorado, the date of which is March 29, 1901.
