The Pichi Mahuida Department is located in the northeast of the Río Negro Province in southern Argentina and is one of 13 administrative units in the province.

It borders the province of La Pampa to the north, the province of Buenos Aires to the east, the department of Conesa to the south and the department of Avellaneda to the west .

The capital of the Pichi Mahuida department is Río Colorado .
