The Río Guárico is an approximately 525 km long left tributary of the Río Apure in the state of Guárico in Venezuela .

The river rises in the part of the Cordillera de la Costa south of the capital Caracas and flows from there in a southerly direction. The Camatagua Reservoir , which is still on the upper reaches, serves to supply Caracas with water. The flat and, due to the rain shadow of the coastal mountains, also relatively dry hinterland of the Llanos Centrales with the city of Calabazo makes intensive use of the water supplied.

The Río Orituco is the most important tributary, it flows south of Calabazo from the left into the Río Guárico.

The lower reaches of the Río Guárico is already in a transition zone to the tropical rainforest ; the abundance of precipitation here cannot be handled by the main course of the river. In this area around the city of San Fernando de Apure, a dense network of tributaries and swamps has developed that flow over the Río Apure to the Orinoco .
