River course

The Río Taura arises in the coastal plain 40 km east-southeast of the city of Guayaquil at the confluence of the Río Bulubulu and Río Barranco Alto . The source rivers arise on the western slope of the Cordillera Occidental . The Río Taura initially flows 15 km to the west, then 20 km to the southwest and finally to the south. The place Virgen de Fátima is north of the river at river kilometer 50. The municipality Taura is about 35 km above the mouth. There the Río Culebras flows into the Río Taura on the left. In the lower reaches of the Río Taura runs parallel to the Río Guayas, which flows 5 km further west . The Río Taura forms numerous river loops in the lower reaches . It is lined with irrigated cultivation areas. Finally the Río Taura flows into the Gulf of Guayaquil . In the coastal lowlands, various irrigation and drainage channels branch and cross the river. The catchment area of the Río Taura covers around 1900 km².
